A common mod used by 3.x users in the LHS/Intrepid crowd is to convert to autostick.
What is autostick?
The longitudal 3.x's use a A606 (think of the A604, now give it a diff case and slightly better internals).
The A606 uses a solenoid pack like the A604.
Thus Chrysler produced this special option which gives you a unqiue shifter. You can shift between "P R N D" like usual and then there's a special sub-section which lets you go from "1 -nocontact- 3"
Thus you can stick shift select what gear you're using!
There's a draw back, if the TCM disagrees with your selection (like if you're redlining or about to stall) it will shift the car for you to a different gear than what you asked for. So the TCM is still controlling everything- you just have a lil more influence.
Now if you can get an A606 TCM to work on the A604, you can get this mod to work (still NT- not tested mod).
You'd need a autostick shifter assembly and autostick TCM, then using the FSM, wire the two up and you're basically done.
